How to Get from Copenhagen Airport to LEGOLAND Billund: Train, Rental Car or Private Transfer

The flights to Copenhagen are frequent and often cheaper than flying directly to Billund — and it is only after booking that many visitors open a map and discover the two are on different sides of the country.
Copenhagen sits on the island of Zealand. LEGOLAND, LEGO House and Billund are in central Jutland, roughly 260 kilometres to the west, across the Great Belt Bridge. It is a genuinely beautiful journey — but with children, luggage and a holiday schedule, how you make it matters.

The geography, in one minute
Denmark is made up of islands plus the Jutland peninsula. Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is on the eastern edge of Zealand; Billund is in the middle of Jutland. By road, the journey is around 260 km and takes roughly 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours in normal traffic. There is no direct train to Billund — the town has no railway station — so every rail journey ends with a bus or car for the final stretch.

Option 1: The train — affordable, scenic, but not door-to-door
Denmark's rail network is excellent, and the intercity route west from Copenhagen is comfortable and reliable. But for Billund specifically, the train can only take you most of the way.
The route. From Copenhagen Airport station (directly below Terminal 3), take an InterCity or InterCityLyn train towards Jutland and get off at Vejle — the nearest major station to Billund. The rail journey takes around 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes. From Vejle station, a regional bus continues to Billund and LEGOLAND, taking roughly 40 minutes. Realistically, with the connection, you should plan 3.5 to 4 hours door-to-door.
The cost. Standard adult tickets from Copenhagen to Vejle typically cost 300–450 DKK each way, but DSB's advance Orange fares can bring this down considerably if you book weeks ahead. Children travel at reduced fares. For a family of four, expect roughly 800–1,400 DKK each way depending on how early you book, plus the bus fare for the final leg.
Who it suits. Solo travellers, couples, and families who are travelling light, are not tied to a tight arrival time, and enjoy the journey as part of the trip. The crossing of the Great Belt Bridge by train is genuinely spectacular.
The honest downsides. You will handle your luggage through at least one change; the train-to-bus connection in Vejle is the weak link, especially with tired children or an evening arrival; and if a train runs late, the connecting bus will not wait. After a long flight, that final hour is where the day tends to unravel.
Option 2: A rental car — flexible, but costlier than it looks
Hiring a car at Copenhagen Airport and driving to Billund is straightforward: motorway almost the entire way, clear signage, and calm Danish traffic.
The drive. Around 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours, following the E20 motorway west across Zealand, over the Great Belt Bridge, across Funen, and then north towards Billund.
The costs that add up. The rental itself is only the start. The Great Belt Bridge toll starts at around 205 DKK each way for a standard car on the 2026 price list — over 400 DKK return. Add fuel for 520+ km of driving, child seat rental (often charged per seat, per day), potential one-way drop-off fees if you return the car in Jutland, and parking at your hotel and at the park.
